General Description

The RTS5436I is an advanced Type-C Power Delivery Controller that integrates all Type-C Channel Configuration (CC) functions, Power Delivery functions (including BMC PHY, protocol, policy engine, and policy manager), and VCONN switch into a single chip. Some new features in PD3.0 including Fast Role Swap, Extended Message transmission, and PD FW update are implemented in the RTS5436I.

The built-in VCONN switch is used for CC to source VCONN power. It incorporates an overcurrent protect function. When power consumption is greater than the preset threshold, the VCONN switch will limit the current to a set value, and turn off after a configurable debounce time.

The RTS5436I firmware supports USB Type-C Specification Release 2.0 and Power Delivery specification R3 V2.0. All the configurations such as power roles, data roles, and current modes of the Type-C port can be configured by firmware. The RTS5436I has various interfaces to communicate with other components, such as GPIO, I2C, and SMBUS, offering the flexibility to extend various applications, and provide Type-C USB Power Delivery to any architecture. Using the RTS5436I's SMBUS/I2C slave interface, the system can implement system control over all Power Delivery related functions, such as Cable Detection, Power Negotiation, Power Swap, Data Swap, and VCONN Swap.

Additionally, the RTS5436I can be statically configured via SMBUS with customized extra functions. With the I2C master interface, the RTS5436I can control/configure other chips in the system, such as PMIC with I2C etc.

The RTS5436I can update its firmware with an embedded SPI flash via flexible ISP channels. The ISP function allows configuration of multiple features and settings via the embedded SPI flash. The ISP function is easy to use via SMBUS/CCs download tools.

The RTS5436I adopts an industry standard 28-pin QFN 4mm*4mm Green package.
