RTS5411S

USB3.2 Gen1 4-port Hub with Billboard and HID Embedded Controller

General Description

The RTS5411S is an advanced USB3.2 Gen1 4-port Hub controller that integrates USB3.2 Gen1 and USB2.0 Transceivers, MCU, SIE, regulator, and charger circuits into a single chip. The RTS5411S fully backward supports the USB2.0 and USB1.1 specification, and can be operated in SuperSpeed USB, Hi-Speed, Full-Speed, and Low-Speed.

The RTS5411S provides a battery charging function for each downstream port. As well as supporting the USB Battery Charging specification rev1.2, the RTS5411S also provides a charging function for various portable devices. Not only downstream ports can be used as chargers, the RTS5411S’ upstream port also supports two special functions regarding the BC1.2 specification. The first charger function of the RTS5411S’ upstream port is called ‘ACA-Dock’ mode. When a device that supports the ACA-Dock feature of the BC1.2 specification is connected to an ACA-Dock, it acts as a host to various USB peripherals, such as a hub, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc., while simultaneously this device will be receiving a charge.

The second charger function of the RTS5411S’ upstream port is called the ‘charger detection’ function. The RTS5411S supports an auto-detection and switch mechanism; it can recognize the type of BC1.2 device connected to the upstream port, including CDP, DCP, and SDP, and charge the connected device in the correct mode.

The RTS5411S can update its firmware with an external SPI flash via a flexible ISP channel. The ISP function allows configuration of multiple features and settings. The ISP function is easy to use with just one USB cable and the RTS5411S’ download tool.
The features and settings of the RTS5411S can also be configured via the SMBUS interface or internal eFUSE.
The RTS5411S has various interfaces to communicate with other components, such as GPIO, I2C, and SMBUS.
The RTS5411S supports a special power saving function (Delink mode). This can reduce power consumption when there is no device connected to the hub even though the upstream port of the RTS5411S is attached to the downstream port of the host or hub.

Features

  • Supports Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Specification Revision 1.0
    • Four downstream ports for SuperSpeed USB, Hi-Speed, Full-Speed, and Low-Speed traffic
    • Backward support for USB specification Revision 2.0, 1.1, 1.0
  • MTT (Multiple Transaction Translator)
    • One TT (Transaction Translator) for each downstream port
    • Better data throughput when multiple downstream ports act on FS concurrently
  • Supports SMBUS to customize configurations
    • SMBUS address is configurable by external SPI Flash or internal eFUSE
  • Supports I2C to configure other chips on the same platform
  • Supports USB Battery Charging Specification Revision 1.2 and other portable devices
    • DCP Mode of BC1.2
    • CDP Mode of BC1.2
    • ACA-Dock functions of BC1.2
    • Charger detection function for an upstream port’s charger that supports BC1.2
    • D+/D- Divider Modes, 2.0V/2.7V, 2.7V/2.0V, and 2.7V/2.7V
    • D+/D- 1.2V Mode
  • The upstream port of the RTS5411S can detect whether the DSP it is connected to is a SDP, CDP, or DCP. When the RTS5411S is connected to a charging port, it is allowed to draw more current from the DSP
  • Supports Gang mode and Individual mode for downstream ports
  • Supports USB2.0 LPM-L1 function
  • Supports USB3.2 Gen1 U1/U2/U3 power saving mode
  • Integrated Fast 8051 microprocessor
  • Supports one HID device
  • Supports one Billboard device
  • Supports Pending HP timer, PM timers, and U1/U2/LFPS exit latency as defined in the USB3.2 specification
  • Supports 12MHz Crystal clock
  • Integrated 3.3V output LDO; the input range supports from 4.5V to 5.5V
  • Integrated 1.2V output switching regulator; the input range supports from 3.1V to 5.5V
  • Supports LED control functions; indicates Downstream Port transfer activity and over-current conditions
  • Supports eFUSE to configure functions or configurations such as non-removable port, gang mode, etc.
  • Supports the ‘Delink’ function for extreme power saving
    • If there is no device attached to the RTS5411S’ downstream ports, the RTS5411S will disconnect itself from the downstream port of the host or hub controller for further power saving. The connection of the upstream port will be established automatically once there is a device attached to its downstream ports.
