Realtek Announces Evaluation Kit Availability for RTU7010 WiMedia-Based Ultra-Wideband Physical Layer Device


HSINCHU, Taiwan and IRVINE, Calif. – October 16, 2006 –  Realtek Semiconductor Corp., one of the world's largest IC design houses and the market leader in Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radio technology, today announced availability of the RTU7010-EVK, an evaluation kit for its RTU7010 WiMedia-based UWB PHY. 

The evaluation kit consists of two RTU7010 daughter boards, two MAC-PHY interface controllers in CardBus form factor, PCI driver, easy-to-use GUI, user manual and data sheets, plus required power supplies.  The EVK enables detailed evaluation of RTU7010 performance, compliance, and interoperability, including transmitter quality (Tx Error Vector Magnitude), power measurement, spectrum measurement, receiver sensitivity, packet error rate, separate diagnostics for header and frame check sequences, and link quality indicator for all data rates and channels.  The EVK enables testing in either single or dual receive antenna mode, enabling evaluation of the performance advantages of Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC).   

The previously announced RTU7010 is a single-chip CMOS PHY, incorporating two full RF chains plus baseband processor in a 7mm x 7mm package.  The chip implements the entire WiMedia PHY 1.1 standard in the 3.168-4.752 GHz band, including both mandatory and optional modes, along with the standard WiMedia MAC-PHY Interface 1.0.

Realtek PHY technology has been chosen by NEC Electronics Corporation and NXP Semiconductors (formerly Philips Semiconductors) for use with their respective Certified Wireless USB-based silicon solutions, enabling highly optimized two-chip Certified Wireless USB solutions for PC and PC peripherals.  The RTU7010 has been chosen by the USB Implementer's Forum (USB-IF) as a reference PHY. 

The RTU7010-EVK will be demonstrated at IDF Taipei (Oct. 16 ~17, Booth No. A10).

The RTU7010-EVK is available immediately.
