"Launched in May and awarded with 'Best Choice of Computex-Taipei 2004' in June, the Realtek WLAN solutions passed Wi-Fi certification testing for IEEE 802.11b/g and IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards in July," said Realtek Semiconductor's Vice President, Jessy Chen. "Featuring excellent performance and security, the Realtek RTL8185L and RTL8255 dual-band triple-mode WLAN reference design solution is not only one of the first products certified for the new WPA2 security standard (IEEE 802.11i compliant), but also has become part of the WPA2 certification test bed. This achievement reflects Realtek's ambition and commitment to leading the industry via specification and standards enhancement".
"Leading companies like Realtek Semiconductor are committed to WPA2 as an industry-wide security solution. Their commitment to this interoperability initiative, along with many others' in the industry, underscores the broad level of support for this important security enhancement," said Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director, Frank Hanzlink. "WPA2 is a core technology for securing an interoperable wireless LAN in the enterprise or home. Organizations like Realtek Semiconductor that support this initiative are clearly committed to standards that benefit the industry. We look forward to their support in further deploying WPA2 solutions."Security has been one of users' priority concerns. In the 16 months since the Wi-Fi Alliance started WPA™ (Wi-Fi Protected Access™) certification, more than 600 products have been certified for the security standard. The new WPA2 standard builds upon the strong security of WPA and is backward compliant with it. With the following features, WPA2 provides even stronger encryption and security for WLAN communications.
Fully complying with the new WPA2 specification, Realtek IEEE 802.11b/g and IEEE 802.11/a/b/g WLAN solutions (for WLAN cards, USB 2.0 WLAN dongles, wireless routers, etc.) stay ahead in strengthening WLAN security, greatly helping WLAN deployment in the enterprise and government, and accelerating expansion of the WLAN market.
The Realtek WLAN chipsets include:
(1) RTL8185L: Integrated IEEE 802.11a/b/g Base-Band Processor and Media Access Controller
(2) RTL8187L: Integrated IEEE 802.11a/b/g Base-Band Processor and Media Access Controller with USB 2.0 interface
(3) RTL8225: IEEE 802.11b/g RF Transceiver
(4) RTL8255: IEEE 802.11a/b/g RF Transceiver
Realtek is sampling the RTL8185L, RTL8187L, RTL8225, and RTL8255 and has begun mass-production pilot runs.
