The ALC885, featuring content protection technology, and the award-winning ALC888 Telecom, enabling VoIP/Skype applications using a traditional phone, provide economic and optimal audio solutions for digital-home multimedia PCs, setting a significant milestone for the industry.
The ALC885 is a high-performance 7.1+2 channel High Definition Audio codec with advanced lossless content protection technology that protects pre-recorded content while still allowing full-rate audio enjoyment from DVD audio, Blu-ray DVD, or HD DVD discs. The ALC885 performs lossless audio streaming at 192kHz/24 bit or higher.
Featuring a 106dB DAC SNR and a 101dB ADC SNR, the ALC885 offers superb audio quality, making it possible for the computer sound system to compete with consumer electronics audio devices and to be granted a quality audio certification, for example, Dolby, DTS, or SRS. With the high SNR and content protection advantages, the ALC885 provides an ideal solution for home entertainment PCs.
The ALC888 Telecom, winner of the 'Technology Innovation Accelerated Award' for the 'Digital Office' platform at the March 2006 IDF San Francisco, is a high-performance 7.1+2 channel High Definition Audio codec for VoIP/Skype applications. The ALC888 Telecom allows Skype connection through a traditional phone, offering great convenience and providing an economic solution for user-friendly VoIP.
The ALC888 Telecom is able to auto-switch from a Skype connection to the traditional PSTN service in the event of power failure, and continue to provide functions and services, e.g., emergency call (911) access, providing flexible usage and convenience for users.
The ALC888 Telecom has been recognized as a technology pioneer and enables new capabilities for digital living. As stated in the news release entitled 'Second Technology Innovation Accelerated Award Winners Announced', issued by Intel on March 8, 2006, "The demo (of the Realtek ALC888 Telecom) showed innovative use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and public switched telephone network (PSTN) in a combined solution and can be used for seamless collaboration, another pillar of digital office usage".
The ALC888 Telecom provides ten DAC channels that simultaneously support 7.1 sound playback, plus two channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the front panel stereo outputs. The ALC888 Telecom integrates two stereo ADCs that can support a stereo microphone, and features Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC), Beam Forming (BF), and Noise Suppression (NS) technology for an enhanced VoIP experience. The Realtek ALC885 and ALC888 Telecom are being demonstrated at Booth A32, Intel Developer Forum Spring 2006, Taipei International Convention Center, Taipei, April 10 ~ 11.
