Safe Workplace and Health Promotion

Realtek established the Occupational Safety and Health Management Committee in accordance with Article 23 of the ‘Occupational Safety and Health Act’. The committee has 13 members and convenes quarterly to conduct a comprehensive review of occupational safety and health issues. Realtek is in the IC design industry, so there are no employees engaged in high-risk work or roles that have a high risk of certain diseases. We continue to make improvements in occupational safety topics and procedures based on domestic and foreign legislation. We work actively and attentively to create a safe and reliable working environment in which all employees feel at ease.

In 2020, the Occupational Safety and Health Center defined supervision and measurement methods for operations and activities that may pose an unacceptable level of safety and health risk. At the end of each quarter, management performance is calculated using the factors listed in the performance evaluation standards to realize the goal of improving safety and health. These measures ensure safety among all members of the company and effectiveness of our risk control.

Emergency Response Plan

Realtek is required by national firefighting legislation to form an emergency response team and conduct realistic fire simulations (exercise with simulated smoke) once every six months. The purpose of this is to ensure that effective firefighting measures can be organized on the spot if a fire breaks out and before the fire service arrives, to reduce the amount of damage. Routine preventive internal inspections also provide early warning and timely fire suppression while training firefighting teams to direct the evacuation of employees and use escape equipment during the early stages of an emergency. Improving the firefighting team’s expertise with rescue, evacuation, and first aid ensures proper readiness.

Emergency response drills include extinguishing fire sources, using fire extinguishers, operating descent devices, and conducting rescues from a smoke-filled machine room. These are realistic drills that must be finished correctly and within the allotted time. Following completion, a review is promptly conducted, which includes identifying mistakes and suggesting improvements. We hope that every drill hones employee skills. In the event of an emergency, the relevant SOPs can be immediately followed so that injuries are prevented and hazards minimized.

To prevent panic when a disaster or an emergency occurs, Realtek organizes emergency response courses for employees to learn basic rescue knowledge and to actively participate in drills. Therefore, in the event of an emergency, staff will be capable of saving themselves and helping others in need. These measures fulfill the company’s safety and defense goals. Attendance rate was 93.7% for our basic training and 93.1% for our review training. In 2020, we had 105 employees who were qualified to deliver first aid, which exceeded legal requirements (according to the regulations governing labor health protection, based on our total workforce we should have at least 85 employees qualified to give first aid). A solid training program helps us to prevent dangerous situations from occurring, and expands safety education, which in turn keeps people protected and upholds stable business operations.
